While you can’t marry NPCs in this title, you can marry other players, and doing so will actually reward you with a solid experience boost. In this guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about getting married in Elder Scrolls: Online.
How to Get Married in Elder Scrolls: Online?
Getting married to other players in Elder Scrolls: Online is actually quite easy, though it will require that either you or the other player own the Pledge of Mara item. This item can not be unlocked through normal gameplay, and must be purchased from the Crown Store for 1000 crowns (around $10).
Alternatively, you can purchase the Digital Imperial Edition Upgrade for 2100 crowns. This will give you the Pledge of Mara, as well as a Nibenay Mudcrab pet, an Imperial Horse Mount, and the ability to create Imperial characters; more bang for your buck.
Once you have the Pledge of Mara, all you have left to get is a partner. You will receive experience boosts for completing quests alongside your significant other, so it would be in your best interest to choose the person who you would play with the most. There are no restrictions on what genders, races, or classes can get married.
An important point to note before you carry out the ceremony is that marriages can not be undone. There is no way to divorce in Elder Scrolls: Online, so once you are married, your account is bound to the other forever. However, you can be married to up to two players at a time, though it will only work if you are on the receiving end of both proposals, bizarrely enough.
Once you’ve found your partner, you are going to need to head to a Shrine to Mara. There are nine different shrines that you can find throughout Tamriel, located at all of the following cities:
Daggerfall Davon’s Watch Elden Root Mournhold Rimmen Summerset Vivec City Vulkhel Guard Wayrest
In each of these cities, you can find what’s called the Rededication Shrine, which will appear as an arch icon on your map, and acts as a Shrine to Mara. Go to one of these shrines with your partner.
Whoever has the Pledge of Mara must then equip it to a quickslot in their inventory. Stand in front of the shrine with your partner and hover your crosshair over them, then interact with them to begin the ritual. If the other player accepts the prompt that appears on their screen, the marriage animation will begin.
After it completes, both players will receive the Ring of Mara item. This is the item that grants you a 10% experience bonus when both you and your partner have it equipped, allowing you to more quickly level up your skills. You can only receive this bonus if both of you are playing a quest together. You can not use it if you are playing alone.
